LUX* South Ari Atoll is the island we suggest when a family wants a real holiday rather than a hushed retreat: a short seaplane hop, two miles of beach to cycle along, eight restaurants so nobody eats the same dinner twice, and a kids' club and teens programme that let parents disappear for an afternoon. The whale sharks are the clincher — South Ari is the only place on earth they gather year-round. Couples can still find quiet in an Overwater Infinity Pool Villa or the LUX* Villa at the end of the jetty, but choose this island for its energy, not its silence.
Who it suits
Families with children of any age, multi-generational groups, and sociable couples who want choice and activity. Less suited to anyone seeking a tiny, adults-only island.
