Soneva Jani is the resort we suggest when a couple's honest answer is 'we want to play'. Ten of its eleven villa categories have a slide from the deck into the lagoon, bedrooms open to the stars, and the days fill themselves with padel, paddleboards, cinema over the water and chocolate rooms that never close. It is not a hushed island, and it does not pretend to be. For families and multi-generational groups it is one of the most complete products in the Maldives; for couples it is at its best in a one-bedroom water reserve, planned around the quieter dining venues.
Who it suits
Families with children from four upwards who will use The Den; groups who want a numbered residence to themselves; couples who value experiences and design over seclusion. Less suited to anyone seeking an adults-only atmosphere.
