Our take

The Brando is the French Polynesia we suggest when privacy matters most. There is nothing else on Tetiaroa: 35 villas, each with a pool and its own stretch of sand, a treetop spa and naturalists who take you to the bird island. It is also one of the kindest places in the region for families — children under 12 travel and stay free, and the Lagoon School keeps six-to-twelves busy — without ever feeling like a family resort.

Who it suits

Couples and honeymooners who want to be left alone on a private atoll, and families who want nature and space rather than a kids' pool.
