We saw the big five!

We had a blast!

South Africa in June was the perfect adventure and escape for our family. Our children (all in primary school) really enjoyed the the private game reserve suggested by Butler by the Sea.

We saw the big five - lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino and leopard - in the first two game drives. All at close range too.

The kids came back ecstatic and pumped! They enjoyed playing national geographic photographer as well as patiently waiting for our friendly guide and tracker to help us find animals.

Two game drives a day over five days was just perfect - one in the early morning and on the late afternoon. In between game drives, we ate, rested, had more yummy food, read books and played card games. We loved the river lodge….it was tranquil listening to the sound of the river whilst sipping on a cup of rooibos tea. The weather was just perfect. A little chilly in the morning but it warmed up during the day. The evenings were a little cool but perfect to enjoy the South African night sky and spotting Venus.
