Baros is the island we suggest when a couple wants the Maldives as it was first imagined — one small, mature island, a reef you can swim to before breakfast, and dinner over the water without a seaplane in between. The villas are smaller than the newer giants and the island is proudly quiet: no motorised watersports off the beach, no drones, no children under eight. For a honeymoon, a Water Pool Villa and one evening at The Lighthouse is the shape of it. If you want slides, kids' clubs or a dozen restaurants, this is not the island; if you want to arrive within the hour and spend it in the water, it rarely disappoints.
Who it suits
Honeymooners and couples who value an easy transfer, a genuine house reef and a classic, personal style of service; vow renewals and anniversaries; divers who want sites close by. Not suited to families with children under eight.

Baros is a small, round island with eight villa categories, from the 89 m² Deluxe Villas under the jungle canopy to a single Two-bedroom Retreat. Only the Pool Villas, Water Pool Villas, Suites, Residence and Retreat have private pools. The resort does not publish maximum occupancy per category; the villas offered for your party and dates come from our partner's live system when you check availability.

Couples who want the classic Baros beach villa at its simplest — the house reef is the point, not the pool.

Family villas: Two-bedroom Baros Retreat with Private Pool.
- Children must be eight or older; there is no kids' club.
- The speedboat runs around the clock, so late-night arrivals go straight to the island.
- Only the Pool Villas, Water Pool Villas, Suites, Residence and Retreat have private pools.
- Reservations are recommended for every restaurant; The Lighthouse is the one to book first.
- Reservations are recommended at all venues to choose your table (resort FAQ).
- Cayenne's Maldivian Mas Bazaar (Mondays) and Seafood Market (Thursdays) are weekly; plan around them if they appeal.
- Only five of eight categories have a private pool; the three without are the Deluxe, Baros and Water Villas.
- Sandy pathways: guests with reduced mobility are welcome with a companion, but the island is not fully step-free.
- Drones are prohibited on the island.
- Villas are compact by current Maldives standards (89–134 m² for most categories); the island trades size for a 20-metre swim to the reef.
- Not for young families: children under eight are not accepted and there is no kids' club.
- Proximity to Malé means an easy transfer but a busier atoll than the far north or south.
North Malé Atoll, Maldives
Speedboat from Velana International Airport, Malé
About 25 minutes · On request at any time of day or night
Met at the airport by a Baros representative; send flight details 72 hours before arrival. Private transfers are available on request.
No seaplane is needed: Baros is in the same atoll as the airport, so late-night arrivals transfer straight to the island.
If a flight is delayed, a transfer booked within the 72-hour window waits for you.
How long is the transfer?
About 25 minutes by speedboat from the airport jetty, at any hour. No seaplane is involved.
Can we bring our children?
Only if they are eight or older. There is no kids' club, so Baros suits older children who will snorkel and dive with you.
Is the house reef really good?
The reef sits about twenty metres from the shore, with turtles and reef fish, and the dive centre has run since 1979. It is one of the strongest house reefs this close to Malé.
Which villas have a pool?
Baros Pool Villas, Water Pool Villas, the Suites, the Residence and the Two-bedroom Retreat. Deluxe, Baros and Water Villas rely on the lagoon.
