Huvafen Fushi is the island we suggest when a couple wants Maldives luxury with ideas in it and no seaplane to catch. It was among the first islands to put a pool with every bungalow, a spa under the water and a cellar beneath the ground, and the design still feels current. The island is small and the mood is quiet; the thakuru handles everything from reef snorkels to sandbank dinners, and the house reef is a short swim from the beach. Choose a sunset Ocean Bungalow for the horizon or a sunrise Lagoon Bungalow for calm water, and keep an evening for SALT and a night in Vinum.
Who it suits
Honeymooners and couples who want a short transfer, a private pool and a design-led, grown-up island; divers and snorkellers who want a real house reef; families of adults or older children who book the pavilions. Not for families who need a kids' club.
